About ABC
We combine science and human-centered design to create new ways to mainstream biodiversity, specializing in insect conservation.
Founded in 2015 by Rodger Gwiazdowski, ABC brings systems thinking, negotiation, and teamwork to every project — uniting clients and partners to solve complex problems in creative ways. We work with Tribal, Federal, and State agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, museums, and private partners to design every project together. Our specialty in tiger beetles translates across listed invertebrates and multi-agency processes.
Get in touch about your project — we’d love to help make it true.

How We Work
Our Services
Strategy
We design, coordinate, and realign conservation portfolios, and multi-year programs. We bring strategic thinking to every engagement, whatever its scale.
- Project & Program design and development
- Multi-agency planning and management
- Independent program review and evaluation
Casework
We prepare, review, and defend biological science for federal, state, and private clients navigating ESA, NEPA, and the legal proceedings that sometimes follow.
- ESA permit content (HCPs, ITPs, Section 7, 9, 10 consultation)
- Biological assessments, NEPA reviews, and field surveys
- Litigation support, fact-finding and expert testimony.
Research
We design, conduct, and publish primary, and applied research. Engagements are collaborative, connecting university, agency, museum, and NGO partners. We contribute as PI, co-PI, or contracted scientist depending on needs.
- Surveys, translocations, and captive rearing of endangered species
- AEC partnerships — facilities, architectural, and landscape design
- Taxonomy, Systematics, and eDNA methods.
- Peer-reviewed research, grant writing, and program management
Media
If bugs are central to your project, we’re a good first call.
We advise, develop, and place insect-related projects across film, exhibits, journalism, and design. Collaborators include the American Museum of Natural History, the California Academy of Sciences, Harvard Graduate School of Design, Iron Head Studio, The New York Times, and NPR.
- Scientific consultation for film, sculpture, and effects production
- Exhibit development and museum placement
- Consultation for journalism and education
Our Process
We always start with a conversation to understand your context, the people involved, and what success looks like to you.
Initial discussions, scoping, and proposal development are free.
Our usual workflow:
